The Ceylon Cinnamon Leaf is an oval shape 10 -13-centimetre-long, 4-6 centimetre in breadth size. The leaf is a plain edge, hard and tough texture with a shining green. These leaves are marked with three principal nerves of which the middle nerve stretches to the point of the leave. The leaves shoot out from the stalks, directly opposite to one another.
The young Ceylon Cinnamon leaves can be easily separated from the mature leaves by its bright red, yellow colour combination.
The mature Ceylon Cinnamon leaves are picked for the extraction of the Ceylon Cinnamon Leaf Oil. The mature cinnamon leaves are left to dry for 3-4 days at the field under the natural light and then processed with the hydro steam distillation. The main constituent of Oil of Cinnamon Leaf is Eugenol.
Cinnamon leaf oil is used as an additive in soaps and insecticides. It is also used to flavour savouries and seasonings. Eugenol is the main and most important chemical component in the Cinnamon Leaf oil. Diluted Cinnamon leaf oil is good to treat tooth and gum problems. It has anti-fungal properties and hence can be used as a diffuser and helps to stimulate the senses. Used along with ginger, cinnamon leaf oil can provide analgesic benefits. The Cinnamon Leaf Oil can be used for a wide range of activities including; as a natural household disinfectant, few drops with purified water as a mouth wash, natural insect repellent, air freshener and many more. Studies had shown Cinnamon leaf oil offers very good anti-inflammatory benefits and can be an excellent mosquito repellent.
